History
Tibetan medicine is deeply rooted in the history of Buddhism, and the Buddha himself taught medicine to his disciples. The earliest forms of Tibetan medicine were practiced before the Buddha, and the cornerstones of what we consider traditional Tibetan medicine today date back to the 8th century AD.Yuthok Yonten Gonpo, known as the king of physicians, wrote the “Gyüshi,” which describes 84,000 illnesses and hundreds of herbal formulas and became a standard of Tibetan medicine.
